What is FORS?
The Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) is a national voluntary accreditation scheme that promotes best practice for commercial vehicle operators. The FORS aims to raise safety, quality, efficiency and environmental protection standards. FORS encourages and focuses on educating and training operators to measure, maintain and improve performance through structured best practice procedures in safety, efficiency, and environmental protection.
FORS is open to operators of vans, lorries, mini-buses, coaches and other vehicles as well as to the organisations that award contracts and specify transport requirements to such operators. As such, although the accreditation is voluntary, it often makes sense for most businesses.
Many larger companies now insist their suppliers and contractors must be FORS accredited in order to be considered for contracts. Companies want to cover themselves and ensuring suppliers and/or contractors are FORS accredited is a straightforward means of achieving this. However, its not just to win more work, FORS focuses on helping operator become more fuel efficient. This in turn can lead to significant savings in fuel expenses as well as minimising the harm to the environment.
Levels of FORS Accreditation?
There are three levels to FORS:
- Bronze
- Silver
- Gold
Each level of the FORS accreditation provides access to progressive accreditation levels, allowing operators to showcase their exemplary levels of best practice.
